I bought some fun stuff at the farmers market yesterday for my front stoop pots. There is this guy on the corner of 11th and Jackson who I always buy hanging baskets from, he also sells individual plants. I bought 10 and got 2 free so I put them all in these 2 pots. It doesn’t really look crowded right now, but I’m pretty sure that I planted too many. Oh well.
I bought these pots last year from the shop in south O that sells ridiculously cheap pots. I think they each cost about $9.
I also planted 32 white begonia plants in my front yard. I love white begonias but kind of hate the bushes in back of them. They used to be nice until the storm last year crushed them and they grew back all crazy. I hope that if I keep cutting them back they will start to grow normal again. I also need to add more mulch to these beds. I was going to do that today and forgot.
I never knew that this was how zucchini grew. I guess I thought it would grow inside the flower. It’s really cool. To me, these zucchini look big enough to eat. Well maybe not, but I’m sure that I have seen zucchini this small in the grocery store. I’ve probably bought them.
These are the little tomatoes. I planted so many tomatoes that I had to move many of them into garden #2. I’ll post more photos of that garden tomorrow once I’ve planted the rest of it and it looks pretty.
These flowers are so pretty! I’m getting really excited thinking about all the things i can do once this turns into zucchini…pasta, grilled veggies in my new Pampered Chef grill basket, zucchini bread, shredded zucchini on my salad, veggie lasagna…
I am perfectly aware of the fact that rain make gardens grow, but WOW! it’s pretty much doubling every day. Our zucchini doubled in size and was about to cover everything else, so Laressa and a few other kind friends advised us to cage them and let them grow up. This is what DB and Steve are doing here. It’s funny how Steve just looks like he is hanging out watching DB, but really he is on a catnip feeding frenzy break. I’m pretty sure Steve would have destroyed the garden by now if we didn’t plant his catnip in the corner…good trick to remember.
OK, so this has nothing to do with my garden, but it was something really cool that happened today and really one of my favorite things to see each year. When the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus comes to town, they bring in the whole show by train. Everything, including the animals are packed up and put on a train and taken from city to city. I live across the street from the Burlington train station, where they unload the animals and actually walk them down 10th street to the quest center. I’ve seen this happen before, but I was not expecting to see it today when I came home for lunch…It kinda made my day. I’m pretty sure that most people can’t say they saw elephants across the street from their house today. This is just one more reason that I think I have the best house in Omaha!
I planted some catnip for my cats and their neighborhood buddies. Lucy is not really into it right now, but Steve totally loves it. When ever he escapes outside, he runs straight to his corner of he garden and hangs out with his catnip plant. In this particular photo he is hanging out ON his plant…whatever.

For my birthday, my family bought me two of these things called “topsy turvy”. I had never heard of such a thing but apparently I was the only one in the room who was so naive! Anyway, you fill then with dirt and tomatoes, hang them from the roof, water them and grow tomatoes upside down. Pretty cool.
I’ve been a garden blog slacker for the last couple of weeks. Not very smart, really, since this is when I’ve been planting the garden and doing all the fun stuff. I did take photos, so I’ll try to catch up. It’s funny because it has already grown so much that it is weird to see it so little.
